By placing the viewer in a constructed virtual reality, this 3D art work aims to convey my personalimpressions of the districts of new residential buildings in St. Petersburg, where high identical buildings tower above, with only asphalt between them and me, small and insignificant, standing somewhere below. I am trying to imagine my daily life here, as the owner of apartment 1125 (or beyond), walking around parked cars on a scarce public area.
In "360 Russian Buildings," the buildings fly up into the sky, disappearing from view, and spin in circles — simulating a walk through identical areas of new residential buildings, where residential buildings are replaced by their twins. Tall buildings in Saint-Petersburg have been appearing more and more since the 1980s - when con-struction technologies allowed for a departure from low-rise buildings. The work highlights this tem- poral period by featuring a selection of photographs of residential buildings in St. Petersburg from the 70s-80s, accompanied by sound.
